Bactericidal Effects of High Airborne Ozone Concentrations on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus

This research investigates the effectiveness of high concentrations of airborne ozone for the inactivation of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, two common bacteria associated with environmental contamination and public health concerns. The study evaluates the relationship between ozone concentration, exposure time, and bacterial survival, demonstrating that airborne ozone can achieve greater than 99.99% bacterial reduction under controlled conditions. In addition to presenting experimental results, the paper explores the kinetics of ozone disinfection and compares airborne ozone performance with previously reported water-based ozonation studies. The findings highlight ozone’s potential as a powerful surface and air disinfection technology for applications such as indoor environmental control, food storage facilities, healthcare environments, and unoccupied spaces requiring microbial decontamination.
