Inactivation of Human and Simian Rotaviruses by Ozone

This study evaluates the effectiveness of ozone for inactivating human and simian rotaviruses, two important viral pathogens associated with waterborne disease transmission. The research compares virus inactivation rates under varying ozone concentrations and pH conditions, demonstrating that ozone can rapidly achieve significant viral reductions at relatively low doses. The findings show that human rotavirus was particularly sensitive to ozone treatment, with near-complete inactivation occurring within seconds under controlled conditions. The study also compares ozone with chlorine disinfection and highlights ozone’s strong virucidal performance, supporting its application as an effective disinfection technology for drinking water, wastewater, and public health protection.
