One Year Full-Scale Study of Ozone Cooling Water Treatment at a German Electric Power Station
This study presents the results of a full-scale ozone cooling water treatment program conducted at a German electric power station over more than two years of operation. The research evaluates ozone’s effectiveness in controlling biological growth, reducing organic fouling, maintaining water quality, and minimizing corrosion in an open-loop cooling system. Through continuous monitoring and comparative testing, including heat exchangers exposed to both ozonated and non-ozonated water, the study demonstrates that ozone provided excellent biocidal performance, significantly reduced biofilm formation, and did not promote increased corrosion of common cooling system materials. The findings highlight ozone as a technically effective and environmentally responsible alternative to conventional chemical treatment programs for industrial cooling water systems.
