Ozonization of Purified Water Systems

This article explores the use of ozone as an effective method for protecting purified water systems from microbiological contamination in pharmaceutical and life science applications. The authors discuss the principles of ozone disinfection, the advantages of electrolytic ozone generation using Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) technology, and the role of continuous ozonation in maintaining water quality throughout storage and distribution systems. The paper also presents a real-world case study from one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical purified water networks, demonstrating how ozone can provide reliable microbial control, reduce operating costs, and eliminate the need for hot water sanitization in large-scale purified water systems.
